One of the themes central to the Consumer Council’s Corporate Plan 2005 – 2008 involves ‘Enabling Consumers to Make Responsible Choices’. This aims to:
· Create a better understanding of responsible consumerism;
· Use our influence to change expectations and raise standards;
· Raise awareness of sustainability in relation to consumer consumption and choices;
· Promote a co-ordinated approach; and
· Position the Consumer Council as a thought leader and advocate of responsible consumerism.
<p>At a time of rising energy prices, more pressure on the household bill and a credit and debt boom, a major conference in Belfast today (28 September) will debate how consumers can use less and achieve more by saving money and resources for future generations.</p>

<p>The Consumer Council said today that the prospect of higher bus and rail fares in six months time is unwelcome, but predictable. The announcement followed Translink’s statement that high fuel costs will push prices up from March 2006.</p>
<p>Punctuality on bus and rail services is getting better, but still has room for improvement, according to the Consumer Council.</p>
<p>The Consumer Council today welcomed the announcement of a one-year delay in the Government’s timetable for the introduction of water and sewerage charges by Minister for Regional Development, Shaun Woodward.</p>
