Irish Ferries introduces Compensation Scheme in relation to W.B. Yeats cancelled sailings in 2018

In 2018 Irish Ferries' new ship, the W.B. Yeats, was delayed and there was a knock on effect for a significant number of bookings. Passengers had to sail on different dates and some from different ports than they had booked.

EU rules said that those passengers were entitled to compensation and Ireland's National Transport Authority (NTA) instructed Irish Ferries to compensate passengers.

Irish Ferries appealed that decision and took it to the European Court. It has been announced that the European Court has upheld the NTA's decision, and passengers must be compensated.

Irish Ferries with the agreement of the NTA has devised a scheme to provide compensation to qualifying passengers in accordance with Article 18 and Article 19 of EU Regulation 1177/2020 arising from the cancellation of certain W.B. Yeats sailings in 2018.

The Scheme will be open for new applications for payment from 1 March 2022 to 31 May 2022.

Affected passengers should submit a claim. Passengers who have already submitted a claim will be contacted directly and do not need to re-submit.  Please click here for details of the scheme on Irish Ferries' website.
