Bright Energy increases its prices again by almost 30%

Bright Energy has announced it is set to increase its electricity tariff from 7 November for existing customers and on the 15 October for new customers. This is the fourth tariff increase announcement from the electricity supplier in six months.

A typical Bright Energy customer with a credit meter will see their bill rise by around 29.8% to around £885 per year, while customers with a keypad (PAYG) meter will see an annual increase of 29% to around £897.

Raymond Gormley, Head of Energy at the Consumer Council said: “Bright Energy customers in Northern Ireland will see their annual electricity costs increase by over £200 with this announcement and over £350 since the first one. This is extremely worrying news for consumers. The main driver for this significant rise is the wholesale costs for energy globally over the last year, with home heating oil and natural gas prices on the increase too.

“Any customers who are struggling to pay their bill should contact Bright Energy without delay to discuss their available options.”

Raymond added: “We would encourage all consumers to think about ways they can reduce their energy costs. Switching payment option, changing billing method or switching supplier can save some money. We have a free independent energy price comparison tool which empowers consumers to compare all electricity and gas tariffs across Northern Ireland in one place. So far in 2021, our energy price comparison tool has been used over 63,000 times.
