Disappointment for consumers as Bright Energy increases its electricity prices

Bright Energy has announced it will be increasing electricity prices from 26 June 2021. This will see the typical bill paying Bright Energy customer needing to find up to an extra £42 a year and a key pad customer an extra £25 per year.

Raymond Gormley, Interim Head of Energy Policy at the Consumer Council, said: “The increase has been driven by the rise of wholesale electricity costs but this news will come as a disappointment to all Bright Energy consumers especially during a time when many are experiencing increasing pressures on their household budgets.

“Any consumers who are experiencing financial difficulty and are struggling with their energy bills should contact their supplier without delay to talk about payment options. We encourage all consumers to shop around to ensure they are on the best energy deal. There are no exit fees for customers that switch supplier before 26th June. To support consumers in the switching process, the Consumer Council website has an independent energy price comparison tool for households and small businesses. In the last year, over 72,000 consumers have used this tool to help them get the best deal.”
