Nearly all of us use taxis at some time – they play a vital role in getting us all to work, hospital appointments or a night on the town. They are also a lifeline for the 56,000 people who have no other way to get about . But, how many of us could spot an illegal taxi or ask the driver what the fare will be? Today sees the launch of the “Consumer Council’s Guide to Taking Taxis” the latest in a series of handy travel guides to help consumers get the most from public transport.
The Consumer Council has called for a radical review of the Warm Homes scheme in the wake of today’s Audit Office’s critical report which seriously questions the extent to which the scheme has targeted and tackled fuel poverty and whether value for money has been achieved for the £109 million spent on the scheme since 2001 .
