The Consumer Council is urging consumers to know their rights about delayed postal deliveries in the run up to Christmas.  An unprecedented spike in online shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday has created a backlog in deliveries for many consumers.

Kellin McCloskey, Head of Policy (Postal Services) said: “In the last few weeks many consumers have experienced long delays in receiving the parcels they ordered online.  Today, the parcel operator Yodel who delivers for many major web retailers announced a backlog of deliveries which will result in delays of up to three days while it clears this backlog.  It’s important that consumers are aware especially if they have paid extra for next day or express delivery that they can claim a refund on delivery charges from the retailer, if the goods are not delivered on time.

“The late delivery of much coveted Christmas presents can place extra anxiety and stress on consumers in the run up to the festive season.  The Consumer Council’s ‘Guide to Shopping Safely Online’ provides consumers with information and advice on their rights when dealing with postal delays, online shopping refunds and postal service issues.
