Energy and Climate Minister Graham Stuart MP addresses advice sector roundtable hosted by the Consumer Council

Advice organisations from across Northern Ireland attended an Energy Bill Support Scheme roundtable today, 20 January 2023, hosted by the Consumer Council.

The roundtable was addressed by Graham Stuart MP, Minister of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), who are responsible for the implementation of the Energy Bill Support Scheme in Northern Ireland.

Representatives from Age NI, Advice NI, Bryson Charitable Group and Bryson Energy, Commissioner for Older People NI, Fuel Bank Foundation, National Energy Action NI, NICVA, Police Service Northern Ireland and the Utility Regulator, welcomed the roll-out of the £600 payment in Northern Ireland, whilst asking questions to Graham Stuart MP about the scheme.

Noyona Chundur, Chief Executive of the Consumer Council, said, “The Consumer Council has been working with BEIS on the Energy Bill Support Scheme and Energy Price Guarantee for a number of months, and it’s great that the roll-out of this vitally important payment has now begun here.

We welcomed the opportunity to meet with Graham Stuart MP today and facilitate an open discussion about the scheme with so many third sector and advice organisations from across Northern Ireland.

“Whilst visiting The Consumer Council offices, Graham Stuart MP also met with our Consumer Protection and Energy teams, who are helping consumers through advice and information on the scheme, in addition to a broad range of queries relating to cost of living.”
