Consumer Council welcomes SSE Airtricity Gas Tariff Reduction

The Consumer Council welcomes today’s announcement by SSE Airtricity of a 10 per cent tariff reduction for its natural gas customers in Greater Belfast.

Speaking about the gas tariff decrease, Richard Williams, Head of Energy at the Consumer Council said “The cost of energy remains the top concern for consumers so we welcome the news that SSE Airtricity are reflecting the sustained fall in the wholesale cost of gas and reducing their Greater Belfast gas tariff by 10 per cent. Overall, this will see the average household’s annual SSE Airtricity gas bill fall by £58[1].

Richard added “Households in Greater Belfast can choose between two natural gas suppliers; SSE Airtricity and Firmus Energy. The Consumer Council would therefore encourage all customers to check if they are getting the best possible deal and whether they can make savings by switching their supplier. The Consumer Council website provides a gas price comparison table, which helps consumers compare tariffs and a step by step guide to switching their supplier so that consumers can get the best possible deal for their natural gas.”
