As students start university or return for the new academic year, the Consumer Council has launched a new, handy online Student Money Survival Guide to make sure their cash stretches to the end of term.

“The announcement that Phones 4u is in administration has left many of its customers wondering what their rights are now. The Consumer Council has produced a short guide for consumers on some of the key questions and concerns that Phones 4u customers might have. This is available on our website (www.consumercouncil.org.uk) or by calling us on 0800 121 6022.
The Consumer Council is concerned about the impact the closures of five further bank branches across Northern Ireland, will have on consumers, businesses and local communities.
Kellin McCloskey, Head of Postal Services at the Consumer Council said “The Consumer Council welcomes today’s announcement by Royal Mail to pilot Sunday opening hours at their Belfast (Tomb Street) and L’Derry Delivery Offices from Sunday 7 September 2014.”

The Consumer Council is today launching a survey to discover how much, on average, people in Northern Ireland (NI) are paying for their car insurance. This is in advance of the Competition and Markets Authority report on their investigation into the private motor insurance market in the UK and NI, due to be published on the 28 September.
Continuing its campaign to help businesses make sure they aren’t paying more for their water than necessary, the Consumer Council has recently helped two NI supermarkets get over £5000 back on their water bills.
