In 2022 YouGov conducted a survey to provide us with an insight into consumer issues across Northern Ireland. This report covers the key findings on consumers household expenditure, if they shop around for essential goods and services and switch and save. In addition, it also highlights if they have been targeted by scams and how well they know their consumer rights.

Home Energy Index - July 2022

The Consumer Council’s Home Energy Index tracks changes in household gas, electricity and home heating oil (HHO) prices respectively, in Northern Ireland. It also creates a composite index; meaning that all three energy prices are combined to create one overarching figure, weighted for usage and market share.

Home heating oil prices in Northern Ireland are over £1 per litre, more than double the ten-year average price, and prices have only been higher for one week this decade according to the Consumer Council’s weekly heating oil survey, published today.

SSE Airtricity and Budget Energy announces price increases

SSE Airtricity, Northern Ireland’s second largest electricity supplier, and Budget Energy, Northern Ireland’s fourth largest electricity supplier have announced price increases for their residential customers. These increases will effect three in ten households, around 248,000 domestic customers.

Budget Energy is set to increase prices by 27% from Friday 27 May 2022.

SSE Airtricity is set to increase prices by 33%, effective 1 June 2022.
