The Consumer Council is reminding consumers to check whether any of the £12 million in forgotten bank or building societies accounts in Northern Ireland belongs to them. The comments come as the consultation closes on how the unclaimed money in forgotten accounts should be spent.

The Consumer Council is recommending that any money left in forgotten accounts should be spent on helping consumers better manage their money. The comments come in response to the Department of Finance and Personnel’s consultation on how any remaining money that is not claimed should be spent.
