The Treasury Select Committee today heard first hand from the Consumer Council how Northern Ireland consumers are being affected by the banking crisis. The Consumer Council outlined the immediate measures which it believes must be taken to build a properly regulated banking system that treats consumers fairly and fosters current and future public trust and confidence. The Consumer Council also stressed the need for an increased focus on building all consumers’ financial literacy and capability – an aim supported here through its unique Partnership with the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and other stakeholders.
