Following the submission of a super-complaint by the Consumer Council and Which?, the Competition Commission today published proposals to sort out the anti-competitive and anti-consumer personal current account market here. For the first time, the Competition Commission has put measures in place to encourage customers to switch banks and take control of their banking to get the best deal possible.

The Consumer Council today welcomed the Government’s review of Christmas savings schemes but acknowledges that there is much work still to be done. Today’s news is a positive and swift development for the 3,000 local people who lost more than £1.2 million when Farepak collapsed in October 2006.
