Ulster Bank Redress must be implemented fairly and consistently

The Consumer Council has formally submitted a further list questions to the Ulster Bank following the continuing delay in announcing and implementing a redress procedure for customers according to Consumer Council CEO, Antoinette McKeown who spoke after a meeting with the bank today.

A new report from the Consumer Council, ‘Barriers to Complaining’, has revealed that almost 40 per cent of passenger transport users who do not complain after experiencing poor service do not make a complaint due to a belief that it is a waste of time.
The Consumer Council spent two days at the Fermanagh County Show this week giving advice and information to visitors.
According to CEO of the Consumer Council Antoinette McKeown, the cost of water was a big issue for local farmers and switching energy providers was a matter of concern for many others.
Following the news that the Competition Commission has ruled that the Utility Regulator was not justified in attempting to place a new price control on Phoenix Gas, the CEO of the Consumer Council Antoinette McKeown has said that weak regulation has failed the consumer but has welcomed the fact that the Competition Commission has taken into account considerations put forward by the Consumer Council in making their decision.
Following a meeting with Ulster Bank today the CEO of the Consumer Council, Antoinette McKeown has urged the bank to expedite the redress procedure for customers who have been affected by the disruption and difficulties at the bank.
“The Consumer Council is very concerned about the length of time it has taken the Ulster Bank to communicate a redress procedure with customers. While we appreciate that the procedure is complicated due to the length of the disruption and the amount of customers affected, it is essential that customers are now given reassurance.”
