Our party of 8 had our flight from Belfast to Faro cancelled & alternative flights cost £400 more

I organised a golfing trip to the Algarve for a group of 8. A few weeks after booking, the airline contacted me to advise the outbound flight was cancelled. I was informed that as the cancelled was six months in advance of the trip no compensation was payable.

The alternative flights we had to book with a different airline cost £400 more than what we had originally paid. The airline still refused to offer any goodwill payment.

  • The Consumer Council reviewed Article 8 of the EU Regulation 261/2004 regarding reimbursement or re-routing.
  • The Consumer Council contacted the airline and asked if they had offered to re-route the party either at a later date or with a different airline.
  • The airline agreed to refund the party the additional money they had paid for new flights.
