We are a family of 7 who got caught up in a nine hour delay returning from holiday

My family and I were returning from our holiday in Europe when we delayed for around 9 hours. There are seven of us altogether and one of my children is autistic so as you can imagine, this delay was very distressing for us all. When I eventually got home, I complained to the travel agent and airline. I was told that my complaint would take around 28 days to resolve but when the 56th day passed and no response was received, I then asked the Consumer Council for help.


  • The Consumer Council made contact with the airline on the consumer’s behalf.
  • The airline provided compensation to each person of €250.
  • The consumer was very happy with the outcome achieved with the help of the Consumer Council.
