Factsheet - withdrawal of bmibaby services from George Best Belfast City Airport

bmibaby was recently sold to International Airlines Group (IAG) as part of IAG’s takeover of BMI. bmibaby has announced it will cease to operate flights from George Best Belfast City Aiport from 11 June 2012.

What should I do if I have a booking with bmibaby to travel after 11 June 2012?

If you are booked to travel with bmibaby you are protected by European law[1] which requires airlines to assist passengers if their flights are cancelled. 

You have the right to a choice between:

·        a refund of your ticket within 7 calendar days; or

·        alternative transport to your destination. 

Alternative transport does not necessarily have to be a flight with the same airline and can be on other modes of transport but must be acceptable to the passenger.  Passengers should contact bmibaby to discuss the options available.

As the flights have been cancelled more than 14 days in advance you will not be entitled to any automatic fixed sum of financial compensation from the airline.

What if my outbound flight is operating but my return flight is not?

If you made a single booking for a return journey you are entitled to a refund for both legs of the journey.

If you booked the two legs separately bmibaby should offer a refund of both legs of the journey or alternative transport.

What should I do if I have booked a package holiday where the flight is with bmibaby?

If you booked an ATOL protected package holiday or an ATOL Flight-Plus[2] your tour operator is responsible for all elements of the package and is required to offer you either a refund of the whole booking or to organise an alternative flight for you at no extra cost.  Contact your tour operator to discuss the options.

What should I do if I booked my bmibaby flight and hotel separately?

If you booked your flight and hotel separately you can claim a refund or alternative transport from bmibaby.  bmibaby will not be responsible for any other elements that you booked, such as hotels or car hire.  If you wish to cancel or change your arrangements you should contact your travel agent to see if they can assist or your insurance company.
