Disappointment for consumers as Budget Energy increases its electricity prices by 3.9%

Budget Energy has announced it will be increasing electricity prices by 3.9% from 21 March 2021 for all variable rate customers. This will see the typical Budget Energy customer on a variable rate needing to find up to an extra £22 per year.

Raymond Gormley, Interim Head of Energy Policy at The Consumer Council, said: “This news will come as a disappointment to all the Budget Energy electricity consumers on a variable rate especially during a time when many are experiencing increasing pressures on their household budgets.

“Any consumers who are experiencing financial difficulty and are struggling with their energy bills should contact their supplier without delay to talk about how they can help you during these times.

“We also encourage all consumers to shop around to ensure they are on the best energy deal. To support consumers in the switching process, our website has an independent energy price comparison tool for households and small businesses. In the last year, over 70,000 consumers have used this tool to help them get the best deal.”
