Attention Consumers….Do you know your consumer rights on World Consumer Rights Day? (Friday 15 March 2019)
How well do you know your consumer rights? Do you know what your rights are if your flight or ferry is delayed? Would you be confident returning an item or making a purchase online?
The Consumer Council has found that less than half (42%) of consumers in Northern Ireland are aware of their consumer rights. The Consumer Council encourages consumers to become more consumer savvy in knowing their basic consumer rights.
John French, Chief Executive of The Consumer Council said, “It is important that consumers are aware of their consumer rights and that they are protected. World Consumer Rights Day gives a specific focus on consumers’ awareness and skills. There are many laws to protect consumers but they work more effectively when the consumer knows how to assert these rights effectively”.
John added, “The Consumer Council has many resources and guides to help consumers make informed decisions and become empowered with the knowledge and skills to know what to do when things go wrong. On our website, we have price comparisons tools, to help consumers get the best deal as well as information on scams, money management and travel”.
