Advice for Translink passengers as changes to Smartlink journeys announced

From 1 July 2021 Metro & Ulsterbus passengers will no longer receive a 5% discount for purchasing 40 journeys on their Smartlink Multi Journey Cards. In addition, journeys they do buy will only be valid for 6 months rather than the current 12 months.

Commenting on Translink’s announcement regarding changes to its Smartlink journeys, Richard Williams, Head of Transport Policy at the Consumer Council, said: “This is disappointing news for passengers currently availing of the multi-journey discounts, but we recognise the intention behind Translink’s plan to move to an account based ticketing system is to simplify ticketing. Our advice to passengers currently using the Smartlink Multi-Journey Card is to top-up your Smartcard before 1 July to get the full benefit of multi-journey purchases. Top-ups from this date will have a six month expiry and will no longer receive a 5% discount for the maximum of 40 multi-journey purchases.”
