The Farepak Collapse – NI Savers’ Stories
The Farepak collapse in 2006 was a bitter blow for 1,200 local people who lost around £480,000 just weeks before Christmas.
At the time, the Consumer Council promised to:
- Provide practical help for the people affected;
- Work to develop safer ways to save;
- Make Farepak savers views heard and count in the Government Inquiry; and
- Lobby for new legislation to ensure consumers are fully protected by law.
The Consumer Council’s report - The Farepak Collapse – NI Savers’ Stories – sets out the action we have taken to meet these commitments and makes policy recommendations to the Government, consumer bodies, the financial sector and the media to help make sure this scandal is never repeated. We very much hope you can join us at this event to be part of this process to help make consumer savings secure.
