Ferries

For many people in Northern Ireland, sea travel means the short trip to Stranraer, Cairnryan, Troon, the Isle of Man or the overnight voyage to Liverpool. Other ferry services operate at Rathlin Island, Strangford and Magilligan. Sea travel is an attractive option to many consumers as it offers the choice to take the car to the UK mainland and avoid the strict baggage limits imposed by airlines.

Currently the rights of ferry passengers are not protected by European Law in the same way as the rights of air passengers. The Consumer Council continues to work to promote the rights of ferry passengers and ensure disabled passengers are provided assistance if required at any stage of their journey.
