The Consumer Council and Financial Services Authority (FSA) today (18 October) launched the Journey to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) paper, which outlines how the UK’s new financial conduct regulator will operate and how it will benefit consumers.
The Consumer Council is to meet with the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) (Tuesday) to discuss the petrol and diesel sector and present the results of a recent survey highlighting the concerns of Northern Ireland consumers following a recent OFT call for information. The Consumer Council will tell the OFT that 82 per cent of those surveyed have changed their driving behaviour in response to the rising costs of fuel¹.
The Consumer Council today is calling on all business and farm owners interested in saving money and helping the environment to get involved in ‘Water Champions’, a campaign launched today (25 October, 2012) in partnership with NI Water and Invest Northern Ireland.
A range of organisations including the Consumer Council, Bryson Energy, part of the Bryson Charitable Group, Fold Housing Association and Derry City Council have come together to work on an innovative energy brokering pilot project in a bid to lower prices for consumers. The Pilot commences in October and will last for six months when it will be evaluated and potentially rolled out widely across Northern Ireland.
The Consumer Council welcomes the Court of Justice of the European Union ruling, which entitles passengers who have had their flights delayed by three hours or more to compensation, where the cause of the delay has been within the control of the airline1.
The Consumer Council is seeking feedback via three minute survey from Ulster Bank customers who were affected by the unprecedented technical difficulties this summer that left many unable to access their accounts in the normal way. The Consumer Council is concerned that many of those who are entitled to complain or claim redress from Ulster Bank have not done so.
