Consumer Council Welcomes Drop In Power Ni Prices

Thursday 23 August 2012

The drop in prices for Power NI customers is welcome news according to the CEO of the Consumer Council Antoinette McKeown.

“A new tariff for Power NI has just been announced and it contains the welcome news that customers of Power NI will see a decrease in their bill. As Power NI have almost 90% of the domestic market, most local households will be affected.”

“The saving for a typical household is £80 per year and the decrease will be effective from the 1st of October.”

“While the cost of electricity from Power NI will drop for domestic customers, businesses and farmers will also benefit from a tariff decrease of an average of 14%.”

“The good news for consumers is that NI electricity is now cheaper than that in GB and ROI and Power NI are competing at a similar price to other local energy companies.”

“While this is good news for Power NI customers, the Consumer Council always encourages consumers to shop around their utility supplier and we have a price comparison tool on our website http://www.consumercouncil.org.uk/energy/price-comparison-/ to help you make the best decision.”
