Craigavon Consumers Set To Benefit From ‘money Week 2012’
Tuesday 17 January 2012
Consumers across Craigavon are set to benefit from ‘Money Week’ from 25 February - 2 March 2012, a special week-long programme of events, designed to help people develop the skills and confidence to manage their money.
Money Week is organised by the Financial Capability Partnership NI – a group of advice agencies, educational and government bodies, banks, building societies and credit unions and who have come together to help people manage their money better and make it work for them. This year the Financial Capability Partnership NI, led by the Consumer Council, is organising Money Week together with Craigavon Borough Council and is hosting over 20 innovative and fun events including:
- Workshops and presentations to help people budget effectively;
- Information on how to get help with money worries;
- How to find out if you’re entitled to any benefits;
- A cookery demonstration on how to cook with leftovers helping you budget;
- A singing/writing competition, based on the theme of money; and
- Educational sessions for young people in schools and colleges
Money Week begins with a special ‘Money Market’ on Saturday 25 February, where members of the Financial Capability Partnership NI ‘set out their stall’ of information and resources to help consumers take control of their finances.
Carol Edwards, Head of Education at the Consumer Council said: “The economic climate has resulted in people having a difficult couple of years. Increasing costs for food, energy and petrol and diesel have all had a negative impact on consumers. It is important to make sure consumers have sound levels of financial capability so they can make the best choices for themselves and keep as much money in their pockets as possible. That’s where Money Week can help. Throughout Money Week members of the Financial Capability Partnership NI will be on hand to offer free expert advice to consumers in the Craigavon area in an effort to increase their money management skills.
“We look forward to working directly with consumers in the area to offer them advice and support in managing their finances. We are grateful to Craigavon Borough Council for showing such enthusiasm in hosting Money Week and we look forward to working together in the weeks ahead.”
Mayor of Craigavon Councillor Alan Carson adds “Money Week is a fantastic opportunity for residents across the Borough to find out key information on how they can manage their money more effectively in 2012. Come along to one of the many great events organised to find out more – from tips on how to save money by using food leftovers to funding fairs and money advice clinics – there’s something for all consumers young and old.”
The Financial Capability Partnership NI will announce the full schedule of Money Week events next month.
