Consumer Council Release Re Firmus Price Review 2010
Wednesday 1 September 2010
Commenting on firmus Energy’s announcement today to hold their natural gas prices for 12-months, John French, Head of Energy at the Consumer Council said:
“Today’s announcement by firmus Energy to hold their prices for the next 12 months will be a relief for their customers. With another cold winter ahead and ongoing economic instability, firmus customers can rest easy that their natural gas bills will remain the same for another year.
“Although, the average price of natural gas in Northern Ireland is currently 8% less than the average price in Great Britain, we have a crippling level of fuel poverty here. One in two households’ are struggling to pay for heating and electricity and its putting people’s health and lives at risk - in 2010 this is completely unacceptable. The Consumer Council has made the eradication of fuel poverty its top priority and we will continue to lobby the NI Executive to restate its commitment to eliminating fuel poverty here.”
