The Consumer Council Is On The Road
Friday 12 February 2010
Northern Ireland consumers have an opportunity to make their voice heard when the Consumer Council takes to the road to provide advice and listen to consumer views about public transport, air and ferry travel, electricity, coal, water, shopping rights and money matters. The road shows will see the Consumer Council visiting Strabane, Magherafelt and Ards over the next two weeks.
The Consumer Council will be in:
- Strabane public library on Tuesday 16 February 2010 between 10am and 3pm;
- Meadowlane Shopping Centre, Magherafelt on Friday 19 February 2010 between 2pm and 8pm; and
- Ards Shopping Centre, Newtownards on 25 February, 2010 between 2pm and 8pm.
The consumer clinics are free and open to everyone. Commenting on the road show, Chief Executive, Antoinette McKeown said: “The Consumer Council is delighted to announce a series of regional road shows. Our aim is to make the consumer voice heard and make it count but we can only achieve this by getting out on the ground and hearing first hand about the issues affecting consumers. There will be a team of skilled Consumer Council staff there each day who will be happy to help or take a complaint about an electricity bill you have concerns about, a flight that was cancelled and you’re keen to find out about your rights or a complaint about your business’s water bill.
“The Consumer Council has the legal power to ask questions and get answers on consumers’ behalf. We can help individual consumers with their bus, train, plane, ferry, gas, electricity, coal and water complaints but we also work behind the scenes with passenger transport, energy and water providers to improve systems and procedures that cause complaints in the first place. So come along to our road shows and use this opportunity to make your voice heard – not only will you benefit but you can make things better for other people as well.”
