Consumer Council Welcomes Gas Price Cap

Thursday 15 March 2007

The Consumer Council today welcomed firmus energy’s announcement that it will cap prices for another year until January 2009.

Joanne Gamble, Head of Energy at the Consumer Council said:  “This stability in firmus prices should continue to give consumers confidence at a time when household budgets are under increasing strain.  Furthermore, if wholesale gas costs continue to fall, firmus have publicly committed that they will pass those savings onto consumers through lower bills.

“The Consumer Council is pleased to see firmus' good and steady progress in making natural gas a choice for more domestic and business customers across Northern Ireland.  The very competitive price firmus is offering for natural gas is good news for customers who have suffered high energy costs and no choice of supplier

“The Consumer Council is impressed at how firmus has continued to focus on what customers want and need in a gas supplier not only in terms of price and choice, but also in consumer focused quality services.  We look forward to working constructively with firmus in the future to the benefit of consumers.”
