Larne Port and Consumer Council highlight improvements being made to special assistance services for those with a disability or reduced mobility

Working in partnership, the Consumer Council and Larne Port, which houses passenger access to P&O Ferries, facilitated a visit earlier in the year to learn more about special assistance services for passengers when travelling with a disability or reduced mobility and to identify if any improvements could be made.

Passenger representatives who attended provided feedback on services. Improvements are now being made at the ferry terminal. These include improved signage, ensuring announcements are clearly audible and the instalment of a special assistance seating area with improved seating.

Speaking about the visit Scott Kennerley, Head of Transport Policy at the Consumer Council said: “Earlier this year we gave passengers the opportunity to provide suggestions on what could make travelling through the ferry terminal more convenient for them. We commend  Larne Port and P&O Ferries for making improvements following passenger feedback.”

Roger Armson, General Manager, Larne Harbour Ltd., added: “Customer care is of the highest importance to us so we are delighted to have addressed the feedback in order to meet the needs of passengers travelling with a disability or reduced mobility. With thousands of passengers passing through the terminal here in Larne every month, we are pleased to be able to accommodate all needs making the onward journey to Scotland or Northern Ireland a smooth and enjoyable one.”
