Matties Meeting House becomes a ‘Water Champion’
Matties Meeting House, Cairncastle has been congratulated by the Consumer Council for reducing its water use by a huge 74%.
In recognition of the company’s water saving efforts, it has been awarded the Consumer Council’s Water Champions award. This award, developed in partnership with Invest NI and NI Water, is given to those who demonstrate how they have reduced their water use.
Accepting the award on behalf of the business, owner Martha Davis and her husband Alan said “We are delighted to get this award. We wanted to cut our water bills so we fixed leaks and fitted a rainwater harvesting system. We would encourage all businesses to get a free water bill health check from the Consumer Council and also see if they can become a Water Champion.”
Graham Smith, Interim Head of Water at the Consumer Council has praised the efforts of the company, “Well done Matties Meeting House for these huge reductions.
“Matties is the latest business in County Antrim to join our growing list of Water Champions. These include businesses, schools and farms from across Northern Ireland. Not everyone will be able to fit a rainwater harvesting system but we can all take steps to lower our water use, and for businesses this means saving money. We would encourage all businesses in County Antrim, big and small, to contact the Consumer Council us for a free water bill health check, ideas on how to make savings or to enter our Water Champions award.”
The Consumer Council can also check non-domestic water users are receiving the relevant allowances available to them and provides a free complaints service if consumers are unhappy with how an issue has been dealt with.
