Good news for SSE Airtricity customers as gas and electricity prices to fall
The Consumer Council welcomes today’s announcement by SSE Airtricity of a 10.2% price reduction for its 135,000 gas customers in the Greater Belfast area and a 10.3% reduction for its 210,000 electricity customers across Northern Ireland.
Speaking about the price decreases, Richard Williams, Head of Energy at the Consumer Council said: “This is great news; SSE Airtricity customers will save around £53 on their annual gas bill and about £51 on their electricity bill. The Consumer Council now wants to see the other gas and electricity companies compete for customers by bringing their prices down.
“Consumers consistently tell us energy bills are their biggest concern. So today, as we recognise Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, we hope that the 42% of NI households in fuel poverty will soon feel the benefits of lower bills. Where there is competition, whether it’s in home heating oil, electricity or gas we urge consumers to shop around to get the best possible price and service. We have lots of resources to help, from our online electricity and gas price comparison tool to our step by step guide to the switching process.”
