Former Open Electric Customers can now switch energy supplier advises Consumer Council

The Consumer Council is informing former Open Electric customers that they now have the opportunity to switch electricity supplier after they were automatically transferred to Power NI as part of the Supplier of Last Resort process, when the company ceased trading on the 18 December 2016.

Richard Williams, Head of Energy at the Consumer Council explains “Open Electric ceased trading in December and customers were automatically transferred to Power NI to ensure their electricity remained on. The good news is that these customers can now switch to an electricity supplier or tariff of their choice.”

Richard added “To help consumers get the best deal, the Consumer Council has an independent, interactive energy comparison tool which will show consumers the latest electricity tariffs. Simply visit and enter your details. All electricity consumers can switch and save on average up to £114 per year.”

In addition, if Open Electric customers were in credit when the company closed, this credit should by now have been applied to their Power NI account.
