First Ever Ad Campaign For Consumer Protection Organisations

in Consumer Skills

For the first time Northern Ireland’s consumer protection organisations have come together to advertise on TV and radio.  This highlights another joint initiative – a full page Ad in both the Phone Book and the Yellow Pages showing who helps with what.

The ads follow recent research by the General Consumer Council which showed that consumers did not know where to go to complain. Commenting on the campaign, Maeve Bell, Director of the General Consumer Council said: “Consumers need a ready reference to find out who can help them. For the first time it is available in the Phone Book and Yellow Pages. Advertising the fact on TV and radio is another breakthrough. Look under Consumer Organisations to see who to contact if you have problems with any of the following: transport, electricity, coal, gas, health, social services, unfair trading, food hygiene and safety.” Organisations taking part are the four Health and Social Services Councils, the Citizens Advice Bureaux, Ofreg, Trading Standards Service, the Environmental Health departments of all the district councils, and the General Consumer Council.
