Consumer Council to offer water bill help to farms at the Antrim Agricultural Show!
Farmers and householders can potentially save money on utility bills and the Consumer Council can show them how, when it attends the Antrim Agricultural Show on Saturday 26 July. The organisation also plans to offer free independent advice to farms to help ensure they aren’t paying more for water than they have to
Graham Smith, Consumer Council Interim Head of Policy (Water) said; “We’ll be on hand with information for householders, farms and businesses on what to do if they want to switch energy suppliers and how to complain if the service is not what it should be.
“The Antrim Agricultural show is a great opportunity for us to give face to face advice to consumers and we are particularly keen to speak to farms regarding water efficiency, bills and allowances.
Graham continues; “Over the past 12 months the Consumer Council has helped return £345,214 to farms and businesses as a result of investigations into billing issues, leakages, inaccurate meters or discovering that they were not receiving the appropriate water allowance. The domestic water allowance for example is worth over £500 each year and can be back-dated up to six years,” said Graham.
Show-goers can also find out about the Consumer Council’s Water Champion Award scheme which recognises savings made by non-domestic water users in relation to water usage and bills.
Graham concluded; “Everyone can do their bit to save water and all show goers can enter the Consumer Council’s competition to win a water butt for their garden, just pop along to the stand for a chat and post your free entry. We’ll also have free publications including ‘Every Drop Counts;’ a guide to saving water.”
Those who are not able to attend can find the information on www.consumercouncil.org.uk/water or by contacting the Consumer Council on 0800 121 6022 or on Facebook and Twitter.
The Consumer Council will be attending a number of agricultural shows throughout the summer months including; Antrim Saturday 26 July, Clogher Valley Wednesday 30 July, Fermanagh County Show Tuesday 05 August and Wednesday 06 August.
