Consumer Council Launches Independent Interactive Energy Price Comparison Tool
NI energy consumers advised to shop around to save money.
Saving money on energy bills has become even easier with the launch of the Consumer Council’s independent, interactive price comparison tool. Click here. The energy price comparison tool allows consumers to:
- Confirm the tariff they’re currently on and how much they’re paying;
- View a list of tariffs and suppliers they could switch to and the money they could potentially save; and
- Click through to the new supplier’s website to make the switch.
Consumer Council Chief Executive John French said: “Consumers consistently tell us that energy bills are their top concern. The Consumer Council has developed this independent, interactive energy comparison tool to empower consumers to get the best price for their electricity or natural gas.
“Some people believe it’s not really worth spending the time switching energy suppliers, but we trialled this interactive tool at the Balmoral Show in May, and we saw consumers there save over £200 per year by switching their energy supplier.
“Therefore, we are asking all consumers to try this independent, interactive tool at www.consumercouncil.org.uk and see what they can save. Switching supplier is very simple; there will be no interruption to your supply, as it’s the same electricity or gas. Consumers will just start receiving bills from their new energy company. We advise consumers to keep checking the tool as new tariffs are regularly introduced, so even if you want to stay with the same supplier, money could be saved by switching to a different one of their tariffs, or changing billing and payment method,” said John.
The Consumer Council’s independent price comparison tool has been welcomed by the Utility Regulator.
Chief Executive Jenny Pyper said: “There has been much progress in delivering a competitive retail energy market over the last few years and competition provides greater choice for Northern Ireland consumers. The launch today of the energy price comparison tool is therefore welcome and timely. It will provide consumers with an independent source of information to help them make choices about their energy supplier and help guide consumers in better understanding their energy switching options.”
