Belmore Court and Motel saves bucket loads by becoming a Water Champion!
Belmore Court and Motel has been congratulated by the Consumer Council for making savings of nearly £1,000 a year by becoming more water efficient.
In recognition of the Motel’s water saving efforts, it has been awarded the Consumer Council’s Water Champions award. This award, developed in partnership with Invest NI and NI Water, is given to those who demonstrate how they have reduced their water use and saved money.
Accepting the award on behalf of the Motel Terry McCartney, the Motel’s owner said: “We are delighted to have our work to reduce water usage recognised by the Consumer Council.
“Water is an additional overhead for Belmore Court & Motel. We worked with our award winning team to increase their awareness of water charges and they received training in environmental policies and what to do if they spotted leaking taps or toilets and also appointed an environmental champion and a green team of staff from each department.
“We have also made changes such as installing dual flush low capacity cisterns as well as fitting restrictors to taps in rooms and sensor taps in the public bathrooms and regularly reading our water meter to check for abnormalities.”
Graham Smith, Head of Water at the Consumer Council has praised the efforts of the Motel, “We congratulate the Belmore Court and Motel for the changes they have implemented in order to reduce their water usage.
“They are the first business in Fermanagh to join our growing list of Water Champions. These include businesses, schools and farms from across Northern Ireland. We would encourage all businesses in Fermanagh, big and small, to contact the Consumer Council for ideas on how to make savings or to enter to become a Water Champion, which is free of charge.”
The Consumer Council has a range of online resources to help business users check their water allowances and usage. The Consumer Council can also check non-domestic water users are receiving the relevant allowances available to them and provides a free complaints service if consumers are unhappy with how an issue has been dealt with.
