Budding young artists from all over Northern Ireland took the honours at this year’s Consumer Council Schools Poster Competition Awards Ceremony. Maurice Jay from U105’s Breakfast Show presented the prizes at the event at Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn on 13 June.

L-R U105 Breakfast Show Host Maurice Jay presented the prizes at this year's competition. He is pictured with Alannah Lunney from St Ninnidh's Primary School, Derrylin, Paul McAtarsmey from Premiere Circus, Belfast and Steve Costello, Chairman of the Consumer Council.
More than 4,000 children from primary and special schools across Northern Ireland submitted posters based on the themes: Don’t waste energy, Count the ways to get to school, How far does my food travel?, Don’t waste water, What can we make out of rubbish? and Spend a little, save a little.

'The Big Drip' kept the kids entertained at the 2008 Schools Poster Competition.
Carol Edwards, Head of Education at the Consumer Council said, “I would like to congratulate the pupils and teachers who put so much imagination and effort into their entries. The standard of work gets higher and higher each year and it makes it very difficult for the judging panel to decide the winners. The Schools Poster Competition is a very special event for us and we thank everyone who has made it such a success over the past six years. The winning 19 entries will be made into a carbon neutral calendar and sent to every school in Northern Ireland."
