Canny Motoring
Between tax, insurance, MOT and filling up at the petrol pumps, we’re all feeling the pinch when it comes to the costs of running our cars these days. Here are the Consumer Council’s top tips for keeping your motoring expenses to a minimum.

Insuring your car
- Don’t be shy…haggle! Insurance companies are desperate to keep your business so haggle with your current insurer to see if they'll match your best price. It may save you the hassle of switching. Also, check out local brokers, internet comparison websites and go direct to insurance companies to compare prices. Remember, insurance policies don’t all offer the same cover and benefits, so make sure you choose the right one for you.
