Installing natural gas and choosing a natural gas supplier.
Installing Natural Gas
If you want to install natural gas in your home you should contact the relevant gas distribution company to see if they operate in your street:
For Greater Belfast and Larne - contact Phoenix Natural Gas (PNG) on: 03454 55 55 55 or visit the website at www.phoenixnaturalgas.com
For Antrim, Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon, Newry, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Coleraine, Limavady and Derry - contact firmus energy on: 0800 032 4567 or visit the website http://www.firmusenergy.co.uk
The natural gas network is currently being extended into the West of Northern Ireland including Strabane, Dungannon, Cookstown, Coalisland, Magherafelt, Omagh, Enniskillen and Derrylin. Scotia Natural Gas (SGN) owns, operates and is responsible for developing this natural gas network.
Connecting your home to the gas network is free with firmus, PNG, and SGN so long as it is a straightforward connection (conditions apply). However, you will have to pay for a new gas boiler and any internal plumbing and radiators that may be needed. Information on how you may be able to get help to reduce these costs is available in our Energy Efficiency section.
Choosing a gas supplier
The domestic natural gas market in Greater Belfast and Larne is open to competition. There are two natural gas suppliers in these areas, SSE Airtricity Gas Supply Limited (NI) and firmus energy. This means you can shop around for natural gas. By switching to a new gas supplier, you may save money and receive a better service.

Marketing Code of Practice
All gas suppliers must adhere to the Utility Regulator's Marketing Code of Practice. This protects gas customers, in particular vulnerable customers, from inappropriate marketing practices and guards against the mis-selling of products. To view the Marketing Code of Practice for domestic customers click here and for business customers click here.
Guaranteed Standards of Service
Gas network operator, Phoenix Natural Gas and gas suppliers have guaranteed standards of service. These standards let customers know how companies should perform in the event of a complaint or network problems, and include payments to customers should they fail to meet them. There are some exceptions to the guaranteed standards and the company may not have to make a compensation payment in all instances.
For a full list of the Guaranteed Standards of Service see the network distributor/supplier website or see our Factsheet.
