We know our consumer rights… Do you?
The Consumer Council launch new “Consumer Champion badge with The Boys’ Brigade Belfast Battalion (7th Newtownabbey)
The Consumer Council and The Boys’ Brigade (7th Newtownabbey) are launching a new Consumer Champion badge. The initiative has been designed to empower young people to be savvy consumers.
Paul McCarroll, Chief Executive of The Boys’ Brigade Belfast Battalion said, “The initiative has been a great opportunity for our young people to learn about their consumer rights and to become more confident when purchasing goods or services. The 7th Newtownabbey enjoyed completing the activities and covered key topics such as The Consumer Rights Act 2015 and shopping safely online.
Speaking about the initiative, John French, Chief Executive of The Consumer Council said, “We would like to thank The Boys’ Brigade (7th Newtownabbey) for working with us to develop the Consumer Champion badge. Our research shows that younger people are not aware about their consumer rights and are not confident to complain when things go wrong”.
John added, “It is important that we educate young consumers now on their consumer rights and responsibilities, so that they will be able to use this knowledge and also pass it on to family and friends. We hope these young people use their new consumer skills and we look forward to seeing The Boys’ Brigade (7th Newtownabbey) at the official launch event on Thursday”.
The official launch will take place on Friday 14 March at Mossley Mill, Newtownabbery, with Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr Paul Michael, presenting the first Consumer Champion badges.
