Flying with Flybe… Check your hand luggage allowance before travelling

The Consumer Council is advising passengers to check their hand luggage before taking off, following a number of enquiries.

Jenny Redman, Senior Transport Policy Officer at The Consumer Council said, “We have been contacted by a number of passengers who have been left unhappy by the recent luggage enforcement by Flybe. While their hand luggage policy has not changed, their approach to enforcing the policy has meant that a number of passengers have had to pay an additional charge at the airport of £40 per flight for their bag. The Consumer Council has recently written to Flybe, and we are awaiting a response, to ensure that this policy has been consistently and fairly implemented.”

Jenny added, “To avoid additional charges we would advise passengers flying with Flybe to check their hand luggage allowance before flying. A standard cabin bag with Flybe should measure no more than 55 x 35 x 20 cm including wheels and handles and the combined weight of your cabin luggage and smaller personal item must not exceed 10KG. Smaller items such as handbags, laptop bags or briefcase should fit under the seat in front of you”.
