Newsletter Awards

Two teams from St. Catherine’s College, Armagh scooped 1st and 3rd place at this year’s awards, while Ashfield Girls’ High School, Belfast took 2nd place and a team from Tor Bank Special School, Dundonald won the Discretionary Award.

The winning team received a silver salver and £500 for their school plus individual prizes. Ashfield received a plaque and £200 while 3rd place and Discretionary Award winners received a plaque and £100 for their school.

Each of the schools were newcomers to the competition and fought off tough competition in a year that saw the highest number of entries received since the newsletter competition began 4 years ago.

The winning newsletter ‘Smart Shop’ will now be professionally printed and distributed to all post-primary schools across Northern Ireland so that other young consumers will be educated by this colourful and well-researched publication.

Quiz Final

The quiz final always provides an exciting culmination to the YCC and this year was no exception. Cheered on by their supporters, four teams: St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Armagh, Larne Grammar School, St. Joseph’s Grammar School, Dungannon and Strathearn School, Belfast, battled it out to become this year’s overall winners.

The audience and competition organisers were extremely impressed by the amount of knowledge and preparation displayed by the teams but in the end, it was Strathearn School who pulled into the lead and picked up the winner’s trophy and £500 for their school. St. Patrick’s came 2nd, picking up a plaque and £200 for their school, Larne Grammar came 3rd and St. Joseph’s were 4th, with both teams winning a plaque and £100 for their school.  All team members also received individual prizes.
