The Consumer Council wants to create more understanding of responsible consumerism and to raise awareness of sustainability.
Sustainability can be a hard concept to understand because it covers a range of economic, social and environmental issues. What we do know is that we are living beyond our resources. If everyone in the world consumed as much as the average person in the UK, we would need three planets to support us.

Waste
Duty of Care regulations imposed on 1 October 2002 place an obligation on all those producing waste to ensure it is managed and disposed of responsibly and in a manner that does not harm the environment.
