Consumer Protection (Cancellation of Contracts Concluded Away From Business Premises) Regualtions 1987
Under these Regulations, if a consumer buys goods or services costing more than £35 from a trader who calls uninvited at your home or workplace then you generally have seven days to change your mind and cancel the contract. You still have this seven day cooling-off period even if you agree to a visit after the seller rings you up or sends someone round to ask if he or she can visit.
In such circumstances, the seller must give you written details of your cancellation rights. Failure to do so is a criminal offence and the contract cannot be enforced against you, although there are some exceptions.
