Timeshare Act 1992
This Act offers protection to United Kingdom consumers entering into timeshare agreements for accommodation situated in the United Kingdom or in another country in the European Economic Area (EEA). Such consumers are entitled to certain information on the accommodation, if they request it, and advertisements should mention that such information is available. A consumer entering into a timeshare agreement has the right to a brochure and a written contract setting out basic information in their own language.
There is a cooling-off period of at least 10 days after entering into the timeshare agreement during which the consumer can cancel the agreement. The timeshare operator must give the consumer notice of this right to cancel; failure to do so is a criminal offence.
Timeshare sellers cannot seek or take deposits during the cooling-off period.
