Control of Misleading Advertisements Regulations 1988

These Regulations are aimed at protecting consumers and traders from the effects of misleading advertisements. They give the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) the power to take action against misleading advertisements where, for example, there is no other channel for dealing with the complaint or where it raises serious issues. The OFT can seek a High Court injunction preventing further publication of the offending advertisement or a temporary injunction until the case can be fully argued in court.
